Coaching
How Is Coaching
Different From Counseling?
Counseling
usually involves seeing a therapist when a crises arises or when dealing with
negative past experiences. Coaching is done when someone is
ready to make positive changes in their life.
Why Hire
A Coach?
Someone
hires a coach because they want to create more order and balance in their lives.
Sometimes people want more from their lives -- peace of mind, simplicity, joy --
but sometimes they want less of confusion, stress, even financial pressures.
In
general, a person turns to coaching because they want a better quality of life,
more fulfillment, and better personal balance.
A coach
is someone who will hold you accountable and keep you moving forward toward your
dreams and goals.
A
coach is also someone who can be firmly committed to what you want and focus you
on the path of achievement. He or she will be familiar with your values
and life purpose and will help hold you true to them.

Coach/Employee Example
John, a
long time employee has struggled with his weight for years. He decides to
contact the EAP and request coaching for a plan of losing weight. The
company provides several free counseling visits for employees who use the EAP,
so John could use his visits to access professional coaching, which is done via
telephone and is strictly confidential. If John chooses to continue
coaching beyond the free sessions, his coach will work out payment arrangements.
